Therapy in Buxton, the heart of the Peak District
What is Invicta Therapy?
What we are about
Invicta means “unconquerable”. We have chosen this name as we are passionate about seeing the physical and emotional freedom which comes with healing. We believe that our hurts and pains do not have to conquer or indeed define us. We drew inspiration from Nelson Mandela in naming this centre, from the Invictus Games and from the poem “Invictus” whose final line reads:
“I am the captain of my soul”
Our aim is to make therapy more available and more accessible in order for individuals to find their own unique path to healing.
What we are offering
At Invicta we recognise the importance of our health and well being physically and emotionally. Life’s events, relationships, cultures and expectations can mean that things get tough at times and we hope to offer a place of calm, comfort, warmth and healing to all our clients and therapists.
We have a number of rooms for a range of services. We offer room hire to therapists for their work and we offer a referral system for clients to find a specific therapy or service. We also have a larger upper room designed to accommodate both training and meetings.
We opened Invicta in September 2018 and have grown into an established therapy centre with a large team of excellent and experienced therapists. We have been running our placement programme for three years now and have found that our trainees are a real asset to Invicta; we are able to offer concessionary sessions and thereby make counselling more accessible to a wider range of people. Our trainees are closely supported and supervised by ourselves alongside having their own clinical supervision.
Our ethos is one of warm acceptance. We believe in the power of authenticity for the individual.
“…..the privilege of a lifetime is to become who you truly are”

We have been friends and colleagues in the therapy world for many years and love that we have been able to create Invicta Therapy. We believe in the inseparable connection between the mind, body and soul and embrace the need for therapies to address such a connection. Physical and emotional wounds need care and attention. Our hope is to provide what you need to heal, to become a stronger, fitter, better “you”.
We are building a growing team of excellent therapists who are qualified, insured and registered with professional bodies. We also now have a great team of trainees whereby we can offer concessionary counselling at reduced rates to make therapy more accessible to more people.
We are both qualified counsellors and supervisors using the psychodynamic approach to counselling and we are passionate about the power of this work. We have specialist training and experience in emotional trauma on many levels and recognise that healing takes place in the mind, body and soul.
We are very focused and committed to what we can offer at Invicta Therapy and passionate about the nurture and support of the work or our therapists and clients.
We hope to help you to be that best, authentic you.
Invictus
Out of the night that covers me,
Black as the pit from pole to pole,
I thank whatever gods may be
For my unconquerable soul.
In the fell clutch of circumstance
I have not winced nor cried aloud.
Under the bludgeonings of chance
My head is bloody, but unbowed.
Beyond this place of wrath and tears
Looms but the Horror of the shade,
And yet the menace of the years
Finds and shall find me unafraid.
It matters not how strait the gate,
How charged with punishments the scroll,
I am the master of my fate,
I am the captain of my soul.

Testimonials
Starting therapy was one of the hardest things I’ve ever done, yet I know it’s the best decision I’ve ever made for myself! I found a place of acceptance and understanding with my counsellor that I never knew was possible. It’s taken all the chaos and confusion and given me a much clearer understanding of my past and my present. Although the process isn’t always linear – I know the hard work is changing things in me and for that, I’ll forever be thankful!

Client H
Regular counselling has supported and guided me through a difficult period in my life. The counsellor has consistently provided a welcoming, safe and non- judgemental space to explore the pattern in my relationships past and present. Through a gentle and grounded process the counsellor has helped me find a healthier way of relating to myself and those around me.
When I started counselling I was over burdened with feelings of responsibility and inadequacy in dealing with the drama and trauma of mental illness and dementia in my parents’ lives. I was overwhelmed with their sudden dependency, crushed by the weight of decision making about their care and enmeshed in their emotional turmoil.
Through her insightful and empowering style of support the counsellor has enabled me to turn a family crisis into an opportunity for self -awareness and personal growth. I am better able to recognise, respect and care for my own feelings. My boundaries are stronger; I have learnt not to sacrifice my own well-being in the care of others and to allow others to own their own feelings, rather than to assume responsibility for them. I continue to support my family from a stronger place, with more resilience and compassions for myself and others.
In my experience counselling has been a hugely rewarding and enriching investment. I highly recommend the services at Invicta to anyone who needs to find empowerment, liberation and peace of mind.

Couples counselling was exactly what we needed to help us create better connection with one another, improve communication and deepen our intimacy. I would recommend couples counselling to everyone at least once in their lifetime whether they are in crisis or not!

Supervision at Invicta is supportive, thought provoking and challenging. I work with my supervisor individually and in a peer support group and she is consistently professional, wise and caring. I look forward to sessions with her and often come away with a new thought or perspective from her vast experience which builds my confidence and my practice as a counsellor. She is not afraid to hold me to account and I really value her honesty and integrity.
