ABOUT US

We believe in the inseparable connection between the mind, body and soul and embrace the need for therapies to address such connection.

Coming from backgrounds in education and social work we have both worked for many years with the serious turmoil that life events can create.

We have been friends and colleagues for a long time and love that we have been able to create Invicta Therapy. This is a place where therapies focusing on body, mind and spirit can come together to offer the client a range of approaches to choose from to address their specific needs. We believe that life is such that everyone has a time when therapy is needed. It can be challenging but the price is worth it. It can be enriching, life enhancing and life changing.

Physical and emotional wounds need care and attention. We hope that we can provide what you need to heal, become stronger, fitter and a better ‘you’.

Life’s challenges can leave us feeling like we have lost a sense of who we are, our sense of identity can be depleted. We love to see people growing in who they are and in who they can be through the therapy process.

We first worked together in a pregnancy crisis centre and now work together within a team of therapists working for a charity in Sheffield where we provide a service to survivors of extreme trauma. We both have our own private practices and Amanda is also qualified and experienced in Individual and Group Supervision.

We hope to be able to offer clients and therapists a place of peace, of comfort, of warmth and of power. We seek to empower, enrich, strengthen and heal and we hope you will find this at Invicta Therapy.

We offer excellent therapists who are qualified, insured and registered with professional bodies. Please contact us via your preferred means of communication, either by phone 07988 589645 or 01298 214819, by email enquiries@invictatherapy.co.uk or by text 07988 589645.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is Counselling/therapy?

Therapy is a safe place to explore and reflect on life issues, things that happen which impact how we feel, which disturb or disrupt our peace and joy in life.

Who needs therapy?

Everyone can benefit from the therapy space at different times in life. We all suffer losses of different kinds- bereavements, ruptured relationships, disconnect within ourselves, childhood wounds, our emotional wellbeing and much more.

How do I book an appointment?

You can make an initial enquiry by email, text or phone. One of our team will contact you and find you a therapist who suits your needs and availabilities. The therapist will then contact you to make an appointment.

How often do I need to come for therapy?

Initially it is helpful to have weekly sessions to get into the work and establish familiarity with the space. You can then agree with your therapist what is best for you.

Do you offer online counselling?

Most of our therapists offer online counselling.

It is helpful if we can meet in person initially to get a sense of each other as client and therapist but this is not essential and online therapy has its benefits.

What happens if I don’t connect with the therapist?

It is very important to work with a therapist who feels right for you. If you don’t feel connected, then we are very happy to find you a different therapist and we don’t take this personally as we recognise that we are all different

How much are the sessions?

Our therapists all work within their own private practice and costs vary between £50-£65 for individual sessions of 50-60 minutes and £70-£85 per session for couple work.

Do you offer concessionary fees?

We have an excellent team of trainee therapists who are on placement with us. They are in their final stages of training, building their hours to become qualified and are supervised by Bel and Amanda, the directors of Invicta. The cost of these sessions is £25

What kind of issues can counselling help with?

Clients come to us with a wide-range of issues problems including:

  • Anxiety (generalised anxiety problem, panic attacks, social anxiety)
  • Workplace issues (stress, work-life imbalances
  • Relationship issues (breakups, divorce, affairs, loneliness, life adjustments, marital problems, jealousy, wedding and premarital issues)
  • Depression (including suicidal thoughts, low mood, social withdrawal)
  • Low self-esteem and lack of confidence
  • Trauma (including post-traumatic stress disorder from accidents, sexual assault and other attacks/incidents)
  • Obsessive Compulsive Disorder
  • Eating Issues (including bulimia, binge eating, negative body image)
  • Phobias and Fears
  • Addiction & substance misuse
  • Bereavement/grief/loss

You have a lot of counsellor profiles who would be right for me?

You can learn about each therapist and their approach by reading the individual profiles under ‘Therapists’. You can also talk to our admin team who can provide you with further guidance.  For your therapy to be effective, it’s important you work with a counsellor or psychotherapist you feel you can eventually trust. At your first meeting both you and the therapist will have an opportunity to honestly decide if you will benefit from working together. And if after several sessions you simply don’t feel the therapist is a good match, we are one of the only UK companies to offer you a free consultation with another therapist of your choice.

I’m interested in couples counselling, how does that work?

We have a number of therapists who provide relationship/couples counselling. It is most effective when both parties are open and willing to engage in the therapeutic process.

Where are you based? Is there parking?

Invicta Therapy is based in central Buxton in the heart of the Peak District and offers both in person and online therapy. If you are coming from in person therapy, you will arrive at 2 St James Terrace; four storey Georgian listed building.

What happens when I arrive for my counselling session?

Invicta has a buzzer entry system – simply buzz and you will be let in via your therapist. Please continue up the stairs to the 3rd floor where you will see our Invicta therapy sign on the wall.  Please let yourself in and take a seat in our reception area and your therapist will come and welcome you when it is time for your session to begin. You will be taken into one of our therapy rooms by your therapist where you can make yourself comfortable and your therapist will inform you of what to expect. Most sessions are 50 minutes in length.

How do I know how many counselling sessions I might need?

This is something which varies from person to person. Your first session with your therapist can often identify next steps and you can discuss any concerns with them.

How much are your counselling sessions

We work with a variety of independent therapists and charges vary from £50 to £85 per session for individuals, and up to £100 per couple.

What about Confidentiality?

Yes, counselling sessions are confidential. Your therapist is ethically bound to keep what you share private. Note that registered therapists are obliged to have a supervisor overseeing their work, to ensure they are maintaining a high level of assistance to their clients. While they might discuss the generalities of your case with their supervisor, a therapist would not divulge your identity, and the supervisor would also be under oath to protect the privacy of any information that is shared.

Are there any accessible facilities?

Due to the nature of the building, there is no step free access to Invicta Therapy.

My partner, friend, or family member really needs therapy. Can I refer someone for counselling?

You may be very concerned about someone’s wellbeing and would like to see them have counselling; however it really is best if the person in question can reach out for support themselves. We can take enquiries from you on behalf of someone else, but you should have their full consent. If you really feel you must suggest counselling to someone, do it in as calm and private a moment as possible. It’s important you express your concerns in a judgement-free manner and backed up by facts over hearsay. Make it clear you support him or her and merely want to see them be helped in feeling better. Then leave them to make the decision for themselves.
